We are thrilled to welcome you to a transformative learning experience that goes beyond traditional doula practices, delving into the realms of energy work, nutrition, herbal remedies, and the profound connection between mind, body, and spirit during the sacred journey of childbirth. This will be a hybrid course which means we will have class once every 2 weeks so 4xs during your 9 week course. Hands-on training will be at the end of the 9 week period for 4 days Thursday-Sunday.

- Login and Dashboard:
- Access your personalized dashboard upon login, where you'll find course materials, resources, and announcements.
- Interactive Modules:
- Engage with interactive learning modules that include videos, readings, and quizzes to reinforce your understanding of each topic..
- Discussion Forums:
- Join discussion forums to connect with fellow learners, share insights, and ask questions. Our community is here to support each other.
- Resources and Downloads:
- Access a repository of valuable resources, downloadable materials, and additional readings to deepen your knowledge.
- You will be given many pdf books to read through out the course. These are excellent books to have in your repertoire as a doula and if you chose to go on to become a midwife.
- Assessment and Certification:
- Complete assessments at the end of each module to gauge your understanding.
- Complete hands on projects and Role playing activities,
- Full certification will be given at the end of hands on training.
SWC Key Components of Full Spectrum Doula Training:
- Lactation Support:
- Hours:10 hours of lactation support education.
- Topics Covered: Breastfeeding techniques, common challenges, milk supply issues, and postpartum support related to breastfeeding, training on formula feeding and pumping.
- Childbirth Education:
- Hours: 10
- Topics Covered: Prenatal care, stages of labor, pain management, decision-making during birth, informed consent, and childbirth preparation classes.
- Anatomy and Physiology of Pregnancy and Childbirth:
- Hours:10
- Topics Covered: Understanding the physiological changes during pregnancy, the anatomy of the pelvic floor, hormonal changes, and the birth process.
- Comfort Measures and Labor Support Techniques:
- Hours:10 + 2 hands-on
- Topics Covered: Massage, positioning for labor, breathing techniques, use of rebozos, visualization, acupressure, and other non-pharmacological pain relief methods.
- Labor Support Techniques:
- Hours: 6 +2 hands on
- Topics Covered: Continuous emotional, physical, and informational support, advocacy in the birthing space, and working alongside medical professionals.
Additional Elements for Certification:
- Developing a Community Resource List:
- Objective: Students need to create a comprehensive list of local resources (lactation consultants, postpartum therapists, pediatricians, support groups, herbalists, and holistic healers) to provide to clients.
- Hours:
- Attending Births:
- Requirement: Attending 3 births as a practicing doula.
- Documentation: Students will submit birth stories or reports, signed by the attending clients, confirming their role.
- Holistic Care Training:
- Hours: 10 + 3 hands on
- Topics Covered: Herbal support, essential oils, Reiki, meditation, energy work, nutrition, and incorporating traditional or alternative healing practices into the doulaβs role.
- Postpartum Support:
- Hours: 10 +2 hands on
- Topics Covered: Emotional, mental, and physical care of the postpartum mother, newborn care, postpartum nutrition, and managing postpartum mood disorders.
- Business Skills:
- Hours: 5 + 2 hands on
- Topics Covered: How to start and run a doula business, legal considerations, ethics, creating service contracts, and client relations.
Additional Qualifications:
- CPR Certification
- Continuing Education: SWC offers ongoing education to maintain certification, such as attending workshops or participating in mentorship programs.
- Cultural Competency and Inclusivity: Training also includes content on working with diverse populations, and trauma-informed care.
